About Claire Jacob-Zysman and Dancers
Founded in 2009 in New York State’s Capital District, modern dance company Claire Jacob-Zysman and Dancers has performed throughout New York State and Massachusetts, including performances at Jacob’s Pillow in Beckett, MA; the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga, NY; and WHITE WAVE’s CoolNY Dance Festival and DUMBO Dance Festival in Brooklyn, NY. In 2013 Claire Jacob-Zysman was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
Artistic director Claire Jacob-Zysman is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, and registered dance/movement therapist (R-DMT) and includes these multiple facets of her dance life in her choreography. Her company performs dance pieces that portray real and imagined characters whose complexity and authenticity she demonstrates through movement. Ms. Jacob-Zysman’s creative process and choreography is driven by her belief that dance should be a therapeutic exploration of the truest form of the self.
About Claire Jacob-Zysman
Claire Jacob-Zysman, a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT), completed her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Specialization in Dance Therapy from Lesley University and holds a BFA in Dance from the University at Buffalo. She has performed with the Anne Burnidge Dance Company and with Melanie Aceto Contemporary Dance. From 2006-2014 she danced professionally with the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, resident modern dance company of The Egg in Albany, NY. In 2009 Claire founded Claire Jacob-Zysman and Dancers and has presented her choreography at Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, MA, at the DUMBO Dance Festival and the Cool New York Dance Festival in Brooklyn, NY, among many other venues throughout western New York and the Capital Distinct of New York. She was awarded a 2013 Individual Artist Commission Grant through the Arts Center of the Capital Region and the New York State Council on the Arts and a 2017 grant from the National Endowment of the Arts awarded jointly for her collaboration with the Buffalo Center for the Arts.
