Dear Patron of the Arts,
Claire Jacob-Zysman and Dancers’ 2013-2014 season was a great success! Albany Times Union dance critic Tresca Weinstein gave high praise to our 2013 Performance/ Workshop Weekend, and we ended our season with two stellar concerts: At First Glance in Troy, NY, and as invited guest artists in the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company’s Concert in Syracuse, NY. With four new dancers, Claire Jacob-Zysman and Dancers has an exciting 2014-2015 season lined up, and we hope you will consider donating.
August 8, 9, & 10: Choreography on the Edge, Byrdcliffe Theatre, Woodstock, NY
Summer marks the beginning of our new season. At Choreography on the Edge, the company will perform Microcosm, a recent work which Claire set on the Zodiaque Dance Ensemble and premiered this past May at the University at Buffalo, NY. The cast for Choreography on the Edge includes five members of CJZ & Dancers and a guest dancer from Zodiaque.
September 5, First Friday: 4th Annual Fall Concert, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Albany, NY
Part of the capital city’s monthly First Friday festivities, the company will perform four pieces, including two premieres. In one of the new pieces, Claire will perform with classical Indian dancer Shilpa Darivemula accompanied by live Indian vocalist Smita Ravichandran.
September 26-28: DUMBO Dance Festival, John Ryan Theatre, Brooklyn, NY
A panel of dance world judges selected CJZ & Dancers’ duet Refract for the DUMBO Dance Festival. Dancers Melissa George and Claire Jacob-Zysman will be performing alongside dance companies from all over the country and the world.
April 11, 2015: Saint Rose Camerata, Massry Center for the Arts, The College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY
Dr. Yvonne Chavez Hansbrough, professor of music at the College of Saint Rose, has invited CJZ & Dancers to perform in the faculty chamber orchestra’s spring concert. Claire will choreograph two new dances, including one set to Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint, which will be performed live by guitarist Dr. Andrew McKenna Lee.
In order to make all of this happen we need your help. All donations will go toward paying our talented dancers for performances, travel expenses, costumes, and other performance supplies. Additionally, the company is saving for a marley dance floor (approximately $3000), which it hopes to purchase by the start of the 2016-2017 season. We greatly appreciate your support and hope we will see you at our upcoming performances!
Sincerely,
Claire Jacob-Zysman
Artistic Director
